Our mission is to support the local community through structured gardening activities.

Our purpose is to encourage, foster and create an interest in horticulture, gardening, heritage and conservation. However, the greatest strength of the group lies in its offer of peer support and the way people in the community come together and bond over shared interests.

The Group have been involved in several National awards over the years.

It was included in the councils ‘Fields in Trust’ award which saw the Antrim Castle Gardens listed as one of the top 4 parks in the UK.

In 2022 it received the Queen’s Award for Volunteering (the OBE for volunteering)

In 2022/23 it received the Community Green Flag Award and the Pollinator Green Flag Award.

In 2024/25 it received the Community Green Flag Award

In 2024 it’s miniature garden received ‘Highly Recommended’ as part of Garden Show Ireland

Our services and activities include:

  • We maintain and manage the flower beds and production area in the Courtyard garden of Clotworthy House

  • We maintain and manage the ever popular scarecrow family.
  • We maintain an honesty/donation hub, which is very popular with the public. Here the public have access to seeds, bulbs, plants, produce and gardening books – for a small donation of course.

  • We provide educational events for our volunteers, which includes visits to other gardens around Ireland, inspirational speakers and gardening presentations and demonstrations.
  • We maintain a Plant Creche every year at Garden Show Ireland. This is a great success and enables visitors to enjoy the show in the knowledge that their precious purchases are being cared for.

We link with other organisations and charities:

  • National Lottery Community Fund

  • Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Day Opportunities
